About lino Biotech
Our Story
lino Biotech AG, a Miltenyi Biotec company, is a Swiss biotech developing label-free biosensors based on focal molography. Christof Fattinger invented the technology at F. Hoffmann-La Roche. It was then developed further at ETH Zurich.
In 2020, lino Biotech AG was founded as a joint spin-out of F. Hoffmann-La Roche and ETH Zurich. Our goal: measure binding where it happens, in real biological samples.
A Miltenyi Biotec Company
Since March 2023, lino Biotech AG has been part of Miltenyi Biotec, the company behind MACS cell separation technology. This gives our customers access to Miltenyi Biotec's global sales, service and application support network.
Our Technology: Focal Molography
Focal molography is a label-free biosensing method. It uses light diffraction on a coherent submicron pattern of recognition molecules, called a molecular hologram (mologram). Bound analyte molecules diffract laser light into a focal spot. Unbound molecules and the background matrix do not.
This is why the method measures binding kinetics in real time, directly in cell lysate, serum, plasma or culture supernatant. Ligands are placed on the sensor chip by DNA-directed immobilization (DDI).
The MACS Matchmaker
The MACS Matchmaker is our label-free biosensor instrument, commercially available since October 2024. With the MACS Matchmaker, you can:
- Measure binding of proteins, antibodies and small molecules
- Get association and dissociation rate constants (kon, koff) and affinities (KD) down to the picomolar range
- Run up to 64 ligand spots on one sensor chip
- Work in crude media without purification, fluorescent labels or matrix interference
Applications
lino Biotech AG serves pharma, biotech and academic researchers in:
- Drug discovery: measure drug-target binding in a native environment
- Antibody development: rank antibody candidates by kinetics, directly from supernatant
- DNA-encoded library (DEL) hit validation: confirm hits from DEL screens by binding kinetics
- Targeted protein degradation: measure degrader binding to target proteins
- Protein interaction analysis: study protein-protein interactions in cell lysate
Why Researchers Work with lino Biotech AG
- Peer-reviewed science: focal molography is described in scientific publications from Roche, ETH Zurich and lino Biotech AG
- Backed by Miltenyi Biotec: global service and application support
- Direct expert support: our application scientists help you from assay design to data analysis
